Artist and educator Deb Putnoi has a passion: getting you to draw. And she has a way to do it: a traveling, interactive exhibit called The Drawing Lab.

We visited her studio a few days ago and asked her to create a mini Drawing Lab for the Uni. While we were talking, I noticed her Zoetrope sitting in a corner. I had to ask. And she said yes.

I’m pleased to announce that the Uni at New Amsterdam Market on Sep. 11 will have a working Zoetrope where you can create your own hand-powered animation.

(Don’t know what a Zoetrope is? The Uni has a dictionary. Come on down, and we’ll look it up together.)

Thanks Deb—we’re excited to have you on board.

About our “new” name… Street Lab.

Street Lab began in Boston in 2006. In 2011, we moved the organization to NYC and launched the Uni Project, which was a portable reading room that roamed the city. In 2020, we are re-introducing our original name Street Lab to tie all this work together going forward, with much more to come.
