Governors IslandA new Uni outdoor reading room will launch this Saturday, Jun 1, on Governors Island in NYC harbor, jointly run by all three NYC public library systems: the Brooklyn Public Library, New York Public Library, and Queens Library. We’ve provided a brand new Uni structure and start-up support, and they’ll provided staff and books and will run this outdoor reading room for the benefit of island visitors all summer long.

We’re honored to work with these libraries again (see our past partnerships here and here), because we love what they do, and we love the values they represent. We’re happy to help them to create a prominent new outpost at this hugely popular NYC weekend get-away. More details here.

Congratulations again to the Uni team for cranking out another Uni while still maintaining a full schedule of our own Uni deployments across the city’s neighborhoods. Some photos below from the shop and delivery:

About our “new” name… Street Lab.

Street Lab began in Boston in 2006. In 2011, we moved the organization to NYC and launched the Uni Project, which was a portable reading room that roamed the city. In 2020, we are re-introducing our original name Street Lab to tie all this work together going forward, with much more to come.
