On July 25, the Uni wrapped up three deployments in a row in an East Harlem farmers’ market and play street hosted by our partner Harvest Home. Uni volunteers Amelia Carver and Emily Jacobson were joined by Chris and Kasey, interns at Aurora Anaya Cerda’s outstanding La Casa Azul Bookstore. Our library partner was NYPL Aguilar Library. Today’s deployment was funded in part by Transportation Alternatives—we’re working together to support play streets by increasing stay times and offering kids and adults a place to read as well as exercise.
The Uni cart, recently launched, continues to perform to spec: we aim to match load-in times that you’ll see in professional event production while still creating a warm, inviting place to gather around a striking sculptural form that holds books. Our new, folding cart is letting us do this, and more. Video coming soon.

Kasey’s t-shirt from La Casa Azul Bookstore reads “Got Libros?”

Here’s the mix we’re all after: healthy food, physical activity, health info, books and learning. All in one place.

Chris and Kasey from La Casa Azul Bookstore! Guys who read with kids. Leslie is pleased.

Amelia Carver who joins the Uni from MIT takes time out from evaluating our work to read.

Whew! Great day and the market winds down. See you soon East Harlem!
