For the first time, the Uni joined Summer Streets, NYC DOT’s annual car-free celebration when nearly seven miles of NYC’s streets are opened for people to play, run, walk and bike. The Uni created a place to gather around books at a “rest stop” on the route at Foley Square in Lower Manhattan.
I admit we hesitated that morning. It was pouring rain at 5am and all participants needed to be in position by 6am before the street closure. But showing up is important, and we were rewarded when the weather gave way, and we got to enjoy reading and meeting people on the street. Not a car in sight.
