Every year, in July and August, we turn our attention to a special effort: how to reach NYC kids with reading and learning opportunities outside of school, during summer. With start-up funding from the Shippy Foundation, we deploy the Uni portable reading room right where kids gather: NYC play streets in the boroughs.
Over the next eight weeks, we’ll focus on play streets in Harlem and the Bronx, creating an oasis with high-quality books, friendly staff, seating, and shade where kids can read, draw, solve a puzzle. Learning can be a life-long pleasure—that’s the simple idea behind the Uni portable reading room at play streets. Thank you to our two host partners: Harvest Home Farmers Markets and Caldwell Enrichment Programs. Read more about our work at NYC Play Streets since 2013.
