We need a communal table to support our programming, and we want one that rises above the cheaply-made folding tables out there. And it still needs be portable and lightweight enough to transport by minivan. Open Architecture New York—an organization that engages creative professionals in social impact projects—answered our call by hosting a lively charrette at the offices of Humanscale, where two teams competed to design us a table. Special thanks to Gloria Lau, for introducing us to Open Architecture Collaborative, and to longtime Street Lab supporter, Betty Chen of BYC Projects, for serving as one of the judges. Stay tuned as we get started on the next phase: building it!
