Our work in 2026 is already underway! Thank you to everyone who donated at year-end—we’re grateful for your support.

We now need your help in spreading the word about several new opportunities:

• First, Street Lab is hiring a Youth Education Manager who will lead new engagement programs that bring young New Yorkers behind the scenes of our work. We’re also hiring Program Staff to run our pop-ups on the streets. For both roles, we’re looking for enthusiastic, talented people who love being out in neighborhoods, engaging with people interested in Street Lab and public space. How to apply.
• We’re accepting applications for a new Street Lab Weekend Leadership Program for New York City high school students. Ten students will be selected for a civic engagement experience with our partners in Central Harlem, focusing on the community’s vision to re-connect a series of parks and public spaces along Saint Nicholas Ave, once known as “Harlem Lane.” Learn more and apply.

Finally, we encourage college and graduate students who are planning their summer to reach out and introduce themselves as we plan summer internship opportunities. More updates below.

Street Lab’s 2026 season is underway, starting with a residency of ONE BIG TABLE and BUILD at a food pantry in Staten Island run by HEALTH for Youth. Get in touch to partner with us this year.

This month, Street Lab begins work at nine schools, leading a series of workshops with students that introduce core concepts of urban planning and public space design and engage youth in the planning and activation of an Open Street in front of their school.

Barnard College students have interned with Street Lab for many years, most recently conducting research to support our work with communities and schools launching Open Streets.

If you haven’t encountered one of Street Lab’s pop-up reading rooms over the past 15 years, keep an eye out in 2026. We’re rolling out to even more locations—reach out to get involved. Make a place for reading.
