Street Lab rolling out curriculum about Open Streets at nine NYC public schools
This month, Street Lab begins work at nine schools, leading a series of workshops with students that introduce core concepts of urban planning and public space design and engage youth in the planning and activation of a street in front of their school. After completing six sessions with Street Lab, students will lead a one-day Open Street for the whole community. Along the way, students will gain real-world experience in civic engagement, teamwork, and leadership, while discovering the power of shaping the neighborhoods they call home. This work is made possible in part by NYC Dept. of Education’s Office of Energy & Sustainability, and is part of Street Lab’s work helping communities launch and operate successful Open Streets across New York City.
