Location Profile: Decatur Ave

Fordham, Bronx

Street Lab is partnering with the Decatur Block Association to pilot an Open Street on a block that was once the location of a familiar neighborhood play street. We started with a block party in summer of 2023, followed by a large Halloween event as part of DOT’s “Trick or Streets” citywide celebration. We are now working with the Block Association to plan weekly Open Streets for Summer 2024.

Our Community Partner

Decatur Block Association brings together neighbors and community members who were all born and raised on the block, collectively with over 100+ years on Decatur Ave.

“To build a safer and thriving community, our nonprofit is committed to creating extracurricular havens for children and secure environments for our senior citizens to enjoy the streets without fear. Recognizing the absence of spaces tailored for neighborhood enrichment, we unite as a collective force, transcending titles, to establish a unified community. Our shared dedication focuses on sustaining this environment for future generations, driven by the belief that through collaborative efforts, we can realize the vision of safer streets and inclusive spaces for all.”
