We love what NYC Dept. of Transportation has been doing to new books.
Thanks to QMA staff member Alexandra Maria Garcia, for inviting us and coordinating read-alouds, and to Uni volunteers Leigh, Stephanie, and Will. Thanks also to Uni installer Nelson, and Amelia, who is working with us for the summer from MIT. Great day in Corona!
The Uni arrives on a clear morning in Queens. “We move. You read.”
Before we began using tents, we relied on parasols, purchased just down the street in Corona. We brought them out again!
Gathering for story time…
Alexandra Garcia from the Queens Museum of Art kicks things off, in spanish.
Uni volunteer Leigh and two patrons set the table, with books.
Look closely, this is not a book. It’s a math puzzle using pickles and jars.
Librarians Rammy Speyer and Rob Bruijnzeels visit the Uni from the Holland. We’ll be presenting the Uni to twenty Dutch Librarians later this week.
Amelia Carver is working with the Uni to evaluate and document our impact. Here she’s diving in and reading to patrons.
First-time Uni volunteer Will creates an impromptu chess clinic on the street.
Stephanie Yee, Uni volunteer Librarian, has been with us many times to Corona.
Nelson DeJesus and I have to break up the party…
Amelia, Stephanie, Alexandra from Queens Museum, and Nelson. See you in a few weeks, back in Corona!
