Bringing the symphony to the street
In the weeks ahead, Street Lab will re-purpose Chelsea Market’s curbside dining areas along West 16th St to offer a series of open-air musical performances by musicians from The Chelsea Symphony. Our goal is to bring music to the street, support local small businesses within the market, and connect New Yorkers with one of the city’s finest neighborhood orchestras. (The Symphony has been unable to perform in person during COVID.) Performances will be free and open to all, made possible by Chelsea Market. We’ll start small, and our goal is to grow the number of performers each month. We’ll also have participatory educational activities for kids. Masks are required and provided if needed. These events are part of Street Lab’s efforts to bring the city’s cultural institutions outside, supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Join us the first Sunday of the month, starting in March. Calendar here.
