Location Profile: E 234th St

Wakefield, Bronx

Street Lab is working with the Cathedral at Greater Faith in the Bronx to pilot an Open Street near the Cathedral as the first step in building community and creating safer, more walkable spaces in the neighborhood. We first connected with the Cathedral through our partners Equity Design and Bronx Health REACH. This past summer, we collaborated with Equity Design and Greater Faith to host an IMAGINE visioning session on 234th with the community. Currently, we’re working with the church and our partners to plan new ways to activate the street in 2024.

Our Community Partner

Located on White Plains Road, the Cathedral at Greater Faith in the Bronx was founded in 1987 by the late Bishop Michel White. The Cathedral has been serving the community as a place of worship and also a place of learning, healing, sharing meals, and simply coming together. White Plains Rd, where the church is located, has been named Bishop Michel White Way in 2021 in her honor, reflecting her life and the church’s impact.
